Civil Designer/Engineer – Site Development

HILGARTWILSON, a civil engineering, planning, land surveying, environmental services, and construction management firm, is seeking to hire Civil Designers/Engineers to become a part of our growing civil engineering design team involved in a variety of private sector projects.  This position within our Site Development & Infrastructure Group develops engineering plans and all project elements for many exciting commercial and industrial projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Assembling construction plans and preparing submittals for reviewing agencies
  • Organizing and scheduling work to accomplish goals on projects within established budgets and timelines
  • Coordination with CAD technicians and other design team members
  • Design small, basic projects or perform task-oriented design of more complex projects
  • Research and conform to applicable city/agency design guidelines, codes and checklists
  • Research and acquire as-built info for the horizontal and vertical design to existing constraints
  • Site development designers/engineers will layout subdivision based on conceptual site plan
  • Perform vertical grading design and earthwork analysis
  • Prepare drainage calculations
  • Assist with preparation of feasibility studies
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and cost estimates
  • Ensure quality control and work with CAD staff to ensure plans reflect the project design
  • Perform various design tasks under the direction of others

Qualifications:

  • For engineers and engineers-in-training: 1- to 4-year degree from a technical school or a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering or related field preferred
  • For civil designers: 2-year degree from a technical school and a minimum of 5 or more years in civil engineering-related work
  • Background in site development preferred
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD is required, Civil 3D is preferred
  • Computer design skills including creating spreadsheets and schedules
  • Capable of preparing civil designs for a variety of projects
  • Possesses an understanding of civil engineering principles and construction plans
