GIS Analyst I

HILGARTWILSON, a civil engineering, planning, land surveying, environmental services, and construction management firm is seeking a GIS Analyst I to become a part of our civil engineering design team involved in a variety of private and public sector projects. We are seeking individuals with sound technical skills or ability, good communication skills and enthusiasm to join our successful and growing team.

Description

As a GIS Analyst I, you will collect and input data into GIS software from a variety of sources to create exhibits, maps and reports.  This role requires a demonstrated proficiency of general GIS terms, map reading, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word and Excel.  This role requires possessing effective communication skills and showing proficiency with time management skills.  As your level of experience grows, additional job duties and responsibilities will be given.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with formulating and reviewing GIS plans
  • Download, convert and upload GIS data available from internal and external sources to make them usable
  • Perform GIS data quality control, including reviewing data for completeness and accuracy; identifying and correcting errors or omissions in the data
  • Catalog and inventory GIS data
  • Input, update and maintain GIS databases, including backups and also maintaining linkages to other databases
  • Perform GIS spatial analyses
  • Develop new applications and train others in the use of these applications.
  • Utilize GIS techniques to provide better understandings of certain variables in a given geographic areas
  • Extract data from GIS software and use varying analysis methods to arrive at results
  • Create maps and graphics to depict inter-related data in a way that draws attention to a range of information
  • Create map layouts and views, and generate maps and reports

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography or related field, with training in GIS technology
  • Demonstrated ability in GIS software
  • Demonstrated ability in Adobe Acrobat, Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Google Earth
  • Skill in reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Displayed analytical and quantitative skills
